Thomas P. Schmitt, Esq.

Principal Attorney

Thomas “Tom” Paul Schmitt, Esquire, formed his own law firm, Florida Personal Injury Law Team, because he desired to practice law differently from other law firms he had worked for in the past. He wanted his primary focus to be on “the client”, not on the law firm, and only by owning his own firm was he able to bring this desire to fruition. Mr. Schmitt opened the first office of Florida Personal Injury Law Team in Orlando, Florida in 2018. The Firm’s Orlando offices are in the Regents Bank Building on South Kirkman Road. The Firm’s Port St. Lucie offices are in the Executive Suites Building in St. Lucie West.

Mr. Schmitt was born in Miami, and was raised in Palm Beach County, Florida. He attended parochial school, college, and law school, all in Florida. In 1985, Mr. Schmitt attended Exeter College, Oxford University on an ESU/Rhodes Scholarship. He is a member in good standing of The Florida Bar, the American Bar Association, the Florida Justice Association (Eagle Member for many years) and the Central Florida Trial Lawyers’ Association. He was formerly a member of the Martin County Bar Association and the Palm Beach County Bar Association. He has served on both the Judicial Professionalism Committee for the 15th Judicial Circuit, Florida, and the Judicial Relations Committee of the Palm Beach County Bar Association. He is a former Director of the Young Lawyer’s Division of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers. He is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, and All Courts of the State of Florida.

Mr. Schmitt is a Lifetime Member of the National Order of Barristers, and a Lifetime member of both the Million Dollar and Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forums, “The Top Trial Lawyers in America”. He has been recognized as “America’s Best Top 10 Personal Injury Attorney 2021”. He has also been recognized in “The National Law Journal’s Top 100 Verdicts” and “Top 50 Verdicts” of 2014. He obtained the 34th largest jury verdict in the United States in 2014. And Mr. Schmitt has proudly maintained a “Superior” “10” AVVO Score for more than a decade.

Mr. Schmitt has dedicated his career to assisting the injured, and he has practiced exclusively as an “Expert Plaintiff’s Personal Injury Trial Specialist Attorney” handling, among many other types of cases, automobile, motorcycle, trucking, brain injury, slip/trip and fall, and wrongful death cases. His reputation for always being prepared, always having an intimate knowledge of the law, his clients, and his clients’ cases is well known. He is a formidable opponent inside the courtroom. Mr. Schmitt has obtained several million-dollar and multi-million dollar jury awards and settlements throughout Florida. His results include a jury verdict in a motorcycle vs. trucking/tractor-trailer wrongful death case in which an Orlando jury awarded $15.2 Million Dollars for his client, the second-largest motorcycle jury verdict in the State of Florida, ever!

Tom is an accomplished pianist, vocalist, sketch artist, and ballroom dancer. For most of his life, he has been an avid boater and has been the proud owner of many speed boats, small fishing boats, large sport fishing boats, and sport yachts over his lifetime. Mr. Schmitt lives on a ranch on the Palatlakaha River in Groveland, Florida with his loving wife Lekky, and his precocious 3-year-old son Paulie and newborn son Peter, where they enjoy wide-open spaces, fresh air, the sounds of horses, birds, crickets, frogs, alligators, roosters, and an occasional cow. The Schmitt family also resides in their home on the Treasure Coast where they can enjoy the Atlantic Ocean with its beautiful sunrises. Mr. Schmitt lists his priorities as: God, Family, Country, and the Florida Personal Injury Law Team and its Clients.
